Why Amish Handcrafted Furniture Is Always the Right Buy

In the 1800's many European Amish began to immigrate to America to escape poverty, war and religious persecution. Today there are no longer any Amish communities in Europe, but there are around 200,000 Amish people in the United States and Canada. There are many different groups of Amish people but they are, for the most part, all quite deeply devout in their faith. Part of their faith forbids them from using many of the modern conveniences and comforts the rest of us enjoy such as electricity or telephones, and any type of motorized vehicles such as cars, trucks or tractors. It would be easy to allow yourself to believe that due to this lack of modern conveniences they are not as able to make an adequate living for themselves. This is not true; many Amish families are quite happy making their living and existing completely from the land they farm, and others, such as furniture craftsmen, make a living by selling their highly prized and exceptionally crafted goods to people outside of their community.

Along with their deep devotion to faith and solid work ethic, the Amish are a strong community of people where quality and integrity are intensely valued. One thing that has stood the test of time as well as the Amish people themselves is their master crafted handmade furniture. Their passion and gifted skill for creating furniture of magnificent function and form has been passed from generation to generation, with each new generation vigilantly continuing the excellence and demanding craftsmanship taught by their elders. Although they have added new elements and character to the furniture they create in order to stay current with outside "modern" demands, their high degree of craftsmanship and excellence skillfully combine the furniture needs of today with the enduring beauty, strong construction and meticulous attention to every detail that Amish furniture is greatly recognized for.

Making a living without the aid of modern equipment can be a difficult challenge, but Amish craftsmen have continued throughout the centuries to make not only breathtakingly beautiful furniture but furniture that will last. Amish craftsmen hand build with an exacting degree of care and excellence a wide variety of furniture such as armoires, beds, bookcases, chests, cribs, dressers, wine cabinets and more. The wood they use is carefully chosen and thoroughly inspected to eliminate potential defects and to guarantee the wood possess the strength and beauty to ensure every piece is perfect.

Each piece of furniture created by Amish craftsmen is handmade and the time, effort, love and dedication to their craft shows through in every piece. When given the choice between purchasing a "big-box store" factory made product or a beautifully handcrafted Amish masterpiece, there is no comparison; the Amish handcrafted furniture wins every time. Amish handcrafted furniture may cost a little more than the traditional furniture store factory made furnishings, but many years from now, when the factory product is long ago broken, outdated and discarded, the Amish handmade furniture will still be as solidly strong and splendidly beautiful as ever.
